The results of this experiment proved
my hypothesis true: Palmolive cleaner is more effective in stopping the
spread (growth) of Escherichia Coli than Comet liquid gel cleaner. Anotherwords
Palmolive has greater anti-bacterial properties than Comet liquid gel cleaner.
This information has showed that sodium hypochlorate is not an effective
ingredient and cleaners containing it will not be as effective as cleaners
containing Trisclosan.
The information
which was obtained by completing this experiment is extremely important.
This information showed That Comet liquid gel cleaner should not be used
because it will not kill Escherichia Coli bacteria which in that case might
happen to be a pathogenic strain. This information will stop consumer from
using the wrong cleaner and may prevent may from getting sick or even dying.
This experiment has also shown that Palmolive cleaner is an effective cleaner
when it comes to fighting bacteria. This information will let consumers
use the right cleaner to help stop the spread of Escherichia Coli.
During this
experiment there are several possible errors which might have affected
the results. One of the errors was the fact that in one petri dish two
disks slid out from their original positions and thus affecting the results.
Another possible error was the fact that when bacteria was being transferred,
bacterial spores from the air might have gotten in to the petri dish because
the sterile cotton swab was not changed often enough, thus affecting our
results. Another source of error might have been the fact that no exact
same volume of agar was poured into each petri dish, thus possible affecting
the results.
To improve this
experiment it should be conducted in the future with several modifications.
First of all, new sterile cotton swabs should be used for every petri dish
so that the risk of contamination is less. Second of all a metric flask
or syringe should be used to transfer the agar so that we can measure the
amount transferred to each petri dish. This would give us more exact data.
And the most important modification would be the fact that more care would
be applied to handling of the dishes s that the disks would not slide
of from their place. More soaps and cleaners should also be tested to give
accurate results as to which cleaners is the best disinfectant.
